Every fill below can go on any of the three models. The price shown is what it adds to a double; other sizes scale with the surface.
Open-cell foam, 53 mm. Even, quiet, slightly warm. The safe answer if you share the bed with someone who turns over a lot.
40 mm, springier than foam and cooler by a noticeable margin. It pushes back, which side sleepers usually read as support rather than firmness.
60 mm, hand-teased, stitched through the border. Firm on the first night, settles into your shape over a fortnight and stays there for years.
800 small coils above the main block. It follows shoulders and hips separately, which is the whole reason a pocket block beats a single slab.
A double can be built with a different fill and firmness left and right, joined under a single cover. No ridge down the middle. Adds $140 and four working days.
We grade 1 to 10 by measured coil travel under a 75 kg load. Drift sits at 4, Tannery at 6, Coldbourne at 8. The slider on the bench above moves the same number.
Over 100 kg, a medium behaves like a soft within two years. We will say so in the showroom even when it points at a cheaper model.
Five of our cover fabrics, stitched into closed panels and inflated from the inside. Drag a panel to push it around; turn the fill down and the same cloth goes slack. That is the difference you feel through a mattress at three in the morning.
Standard cover. Cotton-rich, quilted to 40 mm of wadding, zipped on three sides so it comes off for washing at 40°.
Cooler and drier against the skin. $90 on a double. It creases, and that is what linen does.
For cold rooms. Heavier, quieter, and it holds the quilting pattern for years. $150 on a double.
Any cover can be built with a removable top panel instead of a full zip cover. $60, and much easier to carry to the machine.

If it is wrong, we swap the fill once at no charge. You keep the same cover and coils.
We cover the coil block, the border stitching and the frame for twelve years. A dip deeper than 25 mm measured with no one on the bed is a fault and we repair or replace it.
Fills are covered for five years, covers for two. Stains, burns and a bed used without a proper base are not covered — and we will tell you which one it is before we open the seam, not after.
Turn a double head to foot every three months for the first year. Our mattresses are one-sided, so there is nothing to flip over.
Use a base with slats no wider than 7 cm apart, or ours. A mattress on a solid board holds damp; a mattress on wide slats sags between them. Either one voids the twelve years, and both are easy to avoid.
Everything is made to order. A mattress that sits in a warehouse for eight months arrives already softened, and nobody can tell you how long it sat there. We start yours the day the order is confirmed and it leaves the hall inside two weeks.
The coil block is wound and pocketed here. The fills are cut here. The covers are cut and quilted here, on two machines by the window, by people whose names are on the label sewn into the border. If something is wrong with your bed, the person who built it is the person who fixes it.
We are not cheaper than the shed on the ring road. A $400 mattress exists and it is a real mattress for about three years. Ours is built to be taken apart and re-filled twice, which is why the guarantee runs twelve years and the recycler takes back almost nothing from us.
The test bench you scrolled past at the top is real, it stands by the door, and every batch goes on it before it goes in the van.
We went in for the cheap one and walked out having ordered the middle one, because the man on the floor made us lie on both for ten minutes and then said nothing. Eleven days later two of them carried it up to the second floor and took the old one away.
My shoulder woke me every night on the foam mattress we had. The latex one has not, in four months. It was not cheap and I would spend it again, though I did need the full sixty nights before I stopped noticing it at all.
The mattress is excellent and the horsehair one really does soften into you. Four stars only because delivery slipped by three days and I found out by ringing them, not the other way round. They knocked the base price down without my asking.
Come and lie down. Bring your own pillow if you sleep on a particular one, it changes the answer more than people expect.

Nothing is charged here. We reply with a written quote, a delivery window and a date you can move once for free.
That is what the showroom is for, and it is the only way we would want you to buy. All three models are made up in every fill, and nobody will hurry you off one. Ten minutes on each is the minimum that tells you anything — two minutes tells you which one is softest and nothing else.
It goes in the van wrapped, and on to the recycler we use on the far side of Beckworth, where the steel, the foam and the textile are separated. Free inside town, $40 beyond it. We cannot take away a mattress that is wet or infested, and we will say so on the doorstep rather than load it.
Usually not. A mattress that is too firm holds your hips up and leaves a gap under the waist; too soft and the hips sink. What you want is the one that keeps your spine in the line it has when you stand. That depends on your weight and on whether you sleep on your side, which is why we ask both and why we sometimes talk people out of the expensive one.
Yes — boat berths, attic frames, antique bedsteads, and beds where one side has to be 10 cm shorter to clear a chimney breast. Send measurements or let us come and measure inside Beckworth for free.
